NAPI is disabled during suspend and needs to be enabled on resume. Without

bnx2x: correction to firmware interface

Commit 621b4d6 updated the bnx2x driver to a new FW version, but lacked
a commit to a header file with changes to the firmware's interface.
The missing interface change causes iscsi and fcoe to misbehave with the
updated firmware.

This patch fixes Auto Power Saving configuration in ip101a_config_init
which was broken as there is no phy register write followed after
setting IP101A_APS_ON flag.

This patch also fixes the return value of ip101a_config_init.

Without this patch ip101a_config_init returns 2 which is not an error
accroding to IS_ERR and the mac driver will continue accessing 2 as
valid pointer to phy_dev resulting in memory fault.

ixgbe: driver fix for link flap

Fix up code so that changes in DCB settings
are detected only when ixgbe_dcbnl_set_all is called.
Previously, a series of 'change' commands followed by
a call to ixgbe_dcbnl_set_all() would always be handled
as a HW change - even if the net change was zero.
This patch checks for this case of no actual change and
skips going through the HW set process.

Without this fix, the link could reset and result in
a link flap.

The core change in this patch is to check for changes
in the ixgbe_copy_dcb_cfg() routine - and return
a bitmask of detected changes.  The other
places where changes were detected previously can be removed.

bpf jit: Let the x86 jit handle negative offsets

Now the helper function from filter.c for negative offsets is exported,
it can be used it in the jit to handle negative offsets.

First modify the asm load helper functions to handle:
- know positive offsets
- know negative offsets
- any offset

then the compiler can be modified to explicitly use these helper
when appropriate.

This fixes the case of a negative X register and allows to lift
the restriction that bpf programs with negative offsets can't
be jited.

The explanation of ip_local_port_range in
Documentation/networking/ip-sysctl.txt contains several factual
errors:

- The default value of ip_local_port_range does not depend on the
  amount of memory available in the system.
- tcp_tw_recycle is not enabled by default.
- 1024-4999 is not the default value.
- Etc.

Clean up the mess.

tcp: allow splice() to build full TSO packets

vmsplice()/splice(pipe, socket) call do_tcp_sendpages() one page at a
time, adding at most 4096 bytes to an skb. (assuming PAGE_SIZE=4096)

The call to tcp_push() at the end of do_tcp_sendpages() forces an
immediate xmit when pipe is not already filled, and tso_fragment() try
to split these skb to MSS multiples.

4096 bytes are usually split in a skb with 2 MSS, and a remaining
sub-mss skb (assuming MTU=1500)

This makes slow start suboptimal because many small frames are sent to
qdisc/driver layers instead of big ones (constrained by cwnd and packets
in flight of course)

In fact, applications using sendmsg() (adding an additional memory copy)
instead of vmsplice()/splice()/sendfile() are a bit faster because of
this anomaly, especially if serving small files in environments with
large initial [c]wnd.

Call tcp_push() only if MSG_MORE is not set in the flags parameter.

This bit is automatically provided by splice() internals but for the
last page, or on all pages if user specified SPLICE_F_MORE splice()
flag.

In some workloads, this can reduce number of sent logical packets by an
order of magnitude, making zero-copy TCP actually faster than
one-copy :)

ppp: Don't stop and restart queue on every TX packet

For every transmitted packet, ppp_start_xmit() will stop the netdev
queue and then, if appropriate, restart it. This causes the TX softirq
to run, entirely gratuitously.

This is "only" a waste of CPU time in the normal case, but it's actively
harmful when the PPP device is a TEQL slave — the wakeup will cause the
offending device to receive the next TX packet from the TEQL queue, when
it *should* have gone to the next slave in the list. We end up seeing
large bursts of packets on just *one* slave device, rather than using
the full available bandwidth over all slaves.

This patch fixes the problem by *not* unconditionally stopping the queue
in ppp_start_xmit(). It adds a return value from ppp_xmit_process()
which indicates whether the queue should be stopped or not.

It *doesn't* remove the call to netif_wake_queue() from
ppp_xmit_process(), because other code paths (especially from
ppp_output_wakeup()) need it there and it's messy to push it out to the
other callers to do it based on the return value. So we leave it in
place — it's a no-op in the case where the queue wasn't stopped, so it's
harmless in the TX path.

Commit f04565ddf52 (dev: use name hash for dev_seq_ops) added a second
regression, as some devices are missing from /proc/net/dev if many
devices are defined.

When seq_file buffer is filled, the last ->next/show() method is
canceled (pos value is reverted to value prior ->next() call)

Problem is after above commit, we dont restart the lookup at right
position in ->start() method.

Fix this by removing the internal 'pos' pointer added in commit, since
we need to use the 'loff_t *pos' provided by seq_file layer.

This also reverts commit 5cac98dd0 (net: Fix corruption
in /proc/*/net/dev_mcast), since its not needed anymore.

     - ppgtt broke hibernate on snb/ivb.  Somehow our QA claims that it

     - fence handling bugfix for gen2/3.  Iirc this one is about a year
       old, fix curtesy Chris Wilson.  I've created an shockingly simple
       i-g-t test to catch this in the future."

     Wrt regressions I've just got a report that gmbus (newly enabled
     again in 3.4) is a bit noisy.  I'm looking into this atm.

     Also included are the rc6 enable patches for snb from Eugeni.  I
     wanted to include these in the main 3.4 pull but screwed it up.
     Please hit me.  Imo these kind of patches really should go in
     before -rc1, but in thise case rc6 has brought us tons of press and
     guinea pigs^W^W testers and ubuntu is already running with it.  So
     I estimate a pretty small chance for this to blow up.

     And some smaller things:
      - two minor locking snafus
      - server gt2 ivb pciid
      - 2 patches to sanitize the register state left behind by the bios
        some more
      - 2 new quirk entries
      - cs readback trick against missed IRQs from ivb also enabled on snb
      - sprite fix from Jesse"

Let's see if the "enable RC6 on sandybridge" finally works and sticks.
I've been enabling it by hand (i915.i915_enable_rc6=1) for several
months on my Macbook Air, and it definitely makes a difference (and has
worked for me).  But every time we enabled it before it showed some odd
hw buglet for *somebody*.

This time it's all good, I'm sure.

Input: sentelic - filter taps in absolute mode

Taps in absolute positioning single-finger mode are currently reported
as physical clicks by the driver. This should be handled by userspace,
not the kernel.

When a tap occurs, the FSP_PB0_LBTN bit is set, but the FSP_PB0_PHY_BTN
is not. We use this to filter out physical clicks from taps.

already running with it. So I estimate a pretty small chance for this to
blow up.

- 2 patches to sanitize the register state left behind by the bios some
 more

drm: Validate requested virtual size against allocated fb size

mplayer -vo fbdev tries to create a screen that is twice as tall as the
allocated framebuffer for "doublebuffering". By default, and all in-tree
users, only sufficient memory is allocated and mapped to satisfy the
smallest framebuffer and the virtual size is no larger than the actual.
For these users, we should therefore reject any userspace request to
create a screen that requires a buffer larger than the framebuffer
originally allocated.

i915_drm_thaw was not locking the mode_config lock when calling
drm_helper_resume_force_mode. When there were multiple wake sources,
this caused FDI training failure on SNB which in turn corrupted the

When comparing two pages read from different legs of a mirror, only
compare the bytes that were read, not the whole page.

In most cases we read a whole page, but in some cases with
bad blocks or odd sizes devices we might read fewer than that.

This bug has been present "forever" but at worst it might cause
a report of two many mismatches and generate a little bit
extra resync IO, so there is no need to back-port to -stable
kernels.

When create a raid5 using assume-clean and echo check or repair to
sync_action.Then component disks did not operated IO but the raid
check/resync faster than normal.
Because the judgement in function analyse_stripe():
if (do_recovery ||
    sh->sector >= conf->mddev->recovery_cp)
s->syncing = 1;
else
s->replacing = 1;
When check or repair,the recovery_cp == MaxSectore,so syncing equal zero
not one.

This bug was introduced by commit 9a3e1101b827
    md/raid5:  detect and handle replacements during recovery.
so this patch is suitable for 3.3-stable.

   have the data that belongs in that block.  So fix that test.

2/ If we cannot recovery a stripe due to insufficient data,
   don't tell "md_done_sync" that the sync failed unless we really
   did fail something.  If we successfully record bad blocks,
   that is success.

The MMU (signal_mm.c) and non-MMU (signal_no.c) versions of the m68k
architecture signal handling code are very similar. Most of there code is
the same.

Merge the two back into a single signal.c, and move some of the code around
inside the file to minimize the number of #ifdefs required. Specificially
we can group out the CONFIG_FPU and the CONFIG_MMU code. We end up needing
a few other "#ifdef CONFIG_MMU" as well, but not too many.

The 68EZ328/bootlogo.h is not actually used in the 68EZ328 platform code
at all. It is used by the 68VZ328 platform code though, so move it to be
with the rest of the 68VZ328 platform code.

Commit c0e0c89c089f4bd66dbbd1a44da90abe74fe3f02 ("fix broken boot logo
inclusion") modified the bootlogo code to not be included in asm code.
Modify 68VZ328/bootlogo.h so that the bootlogo bit map is named correctly
for direct use in the C code.

Places which modify superblock feature / state fields mark the superblock
buffer dirty so it is written out by flusher thread. Thus there's no need to
set s_dirt there.

The only other fields changing in the superblock are the numbers of free
blocks, free inodes and s_wtime. There's no real need to write (or even
compute) these periodically. Free blocks / inodes counters are recomputed on
every mount from group counters anyway and value of s_wtime is only
informational and imprecise anyway. So it should be enough to write these
opportunistically on mount, remount, umount, and sync_fs times.

Currently on unmount if we are mounted R/W, we first write the superblock to
the media if it is dirty, and then write it again, which is not optimal. This
patch makes ext2 write the superblock on unmount less times.

Currently we write out all journal buffers in WRITE_SYNC mode. This improves
performance for fsync heavy workloads but hinders performance when writes
are mostly asynchronous, most noticably it slows down readers and users
complain about slow desktop response etc.

So submit writes as asynchronous in the normal case and only submit writes as
WRITE_SYNC if we detect someone is waiting for current transaction commit.

I've gathered some numbers to back this change. The first is the read latency
test. It measures time to read 1 MB after several seconds of sleeping in
presence of streaming writes.

Top 10 times (out of 90) in us:

in presence of streaming reader. The numbers (fsyncs/s) are:

port 1.  This patch works around the problem by keeping port 0's phy

firewire: restore the device.h include in linux/firewire.h

Commit 313162d0b838 ("device.h: audit and cleanup users in main include
dir") exchanged an include <linux/device.h> for a struct *device but in
actuality I misread this file when creating 313162d and it should have
remained an include.

There were no build regressions since all consumers were already getting
device.h anyway, but make it right regardless.

parisc: fix missing cmpxchg file error from system.h split

Commit b4816afa3986 ("Move the asm-generic/system.h xchg()
implementation to asm-generic/cmpxchg.h") introduced the concept of
asm/cmpxchg.h but the parisc arch never got one.  Fork the cmpxchg
content out of the asm/atomic.h file to create one.

Some minor whitespace fixups were done on the block of code that created
the new file.

Commit bf4289cba02b ("ATMEL: fix nand ecc support") indicated that it
wanted to "Move platform data to a common header
include/linux/platform_data/atmel_nand.h" and the new header even had
re-include protectors with:

    #ifndef __ATMEL_NAND_H__

However, the file that was added was simply called atmel.h
and this caused avr32 defconfig to fail with:

The hardwall drain code was not properly implemented for tilegx,
just tilepro, so you couldn't reliably restart an application that
made use of the udn.

In addition, the code was only applicable to the udn (user dynamic
network).  On tilegx there is a second user network that is available
(the "idn"), and there is support for having I/O shims deliver
user-level interrupts to applications ("ipi") which functions in a
very similar way to the inter-core permissions used for udn/idn.
So this change also generalizes the code from supporting just the udn
to supports udn/idn/ipi on tilegx.

By default we now use /dev/hardwall/{udn,idn,ipi} with separate
minor numbers for the three devices.

This change adds support for a new "super" bit in the PTE, using the new
arch_make_huge_pte() method.  The Tilera hypervisor sees the bit set at a
given level of the page table and gangs together 4, 16, or 64 consecutive
pages from that level of the hierarchy to create a larger TLB entry.

One extra "super" page size can be specified at each of the three levels
of the page table hierarchy on tilegx, using the "hugepagesz" argument
on the boot command line.  A new hypervisor API is added to allow Linux
to tell the hypervisor how many PTEs to gang together at each level of
the page table.

To allow pre-allocating huge pages larger than the buddy allocator can
handle, this change modifies the Tilera bootmem support to put all of
memory on tilegx platforms into bootmem.

As part of this change I eliminate the vestigial CONFIG_HIGHPTE support,
which never worked anyway, and eliminate the hv_page_size() API in favor
of the standard vma_kernel_pagesize() API.

the basic size of a pagetable span.  To set that bit properly
we need to tweak the PTe in make_huge_pte() based on the vma.

This change provides the API for a subsequent tile-specific
change to use.

We already had a syscall that did some dcache flushing, but it was
not used in practice.  Make it MIPS compatible instead so it can
do both the DCACHE and ICACHE actions.  We have code that wants to
be able to use the ICACHE flush mode from userspace so this change
enables that.

This change introduces new flags for the hv_install_context()
API that passes a page table pointer to the hypervisor.  Clients
can explicitly request 4K, 16K, or 64K small pages when they
install a new context.  In practice, the page size is fixed at
kernel compile time and the same size is always requested every
time a new page table is installed.

The <hv/hypervisor.h> header changes so that it provides more abstract
macros for managing "page" things like PFNs and page tables.  For
example there is now a HV_DEFAULT_PAGE_SIZE_SMALL instead of the old
HV_PAGE_SIZE_SMALL.  The various PFN routines have been eliminated and
only PA- or PTFN-based ones remain (since PTFNs are always expressed
in fixed 2KB "page" size).  The page-table management macros are
renamed with a leading underscore and take page-size arguments with
the presumption that clients will use those macros in some single
place to provide the "real" macros they will use themselves.

I happened to notice the old hv_set_caching() API was totally broken
(it assumed 4KB pages) so I changed it so it would nominally work
correctly with other page sizes.

Tag modules with the page size so you can't load a module built with
a conflicting page size.  (And add a test for SMP while we're at it.)

Use direct load/store for the get_user/put_user.

Previously, we would call out to a helper routine that would do the
appropriate thing and then return, handling the possible exception
internally.  Now we inline the load or store, along with a "we succeeded"
indication in a register; if the load or store faults, we write a
"we failed" indication into the same register and then return to the
following instruction.  This is more efficient and gives us more compact
code, as well as being more in line with what other architectures do.

The special futex assembly source file for TILE-Gx also disappears in
this change; we just use the same inlining idiom there as well, putting
the appropriate atomic operations directly into futex_atomic_op_inuser()
(and thus into the FUTEX_WAIT function).

The underlying atomic copy_from_user, copy_to_user functions were
renamed using the (cryptic) x86 convention as copy_from_user_ll and
copy_to_user_ll.

The change adds some infrastructure for managing tile pmd's more generally,
using pte_pmd() and pmd_pte() methods to translate pmd values to and
from ptes, since on TILEPro a pmd is really just a nested structure
holding a pgd (aka pte).  Several existing pmd methods are moved into
this framework, and a whole raft of additional pmd accessors are defined
that are used by the transparent hugepage framework.

The tile PTE now has a "client2" bit.  The bit is used to indicate a
transparent huge page is in the process of being split into subpages.

This change also fixes a generic bug where the return value of the
generic pmdp_splitting_flush() was incorrect.

In general we want to avoid ever touching memory while within an
interrupt critical section, since the page fault path goes through
a different path from the hypervisor when in an interrupt critical
section, and we carefully decided with tilegx that we didn't need
to support this path in the kernel.  (On tilepro we did implement
that path as part of supporting atomic instructions in software.)

In practice we always need to touch the kernel stack, since that's
where we store the interrupt state before releasing the critical
section, but this change cleans up a few things.  The IRQ_ENABLE
macro is split up so that when we want to enable interrupts in a
deferred way (e.g. for cpu_idle or for interrupt return) we can
read the per-cpu enable mask before entering the critical section.
The cache-migration code is changed to use interrupt masking instead
of interrupt critical sections.  And, the interrupt-entry code is
changed so that we defer loading "tp" from per-cpu data until after
we have released the interrupt critical section.
